GEOPARK BLOGThe Origins Dig Diary Sept 20091st September 2009![]() Coming direct from Kents Cavern the Origins dig diary will follow the action as it happens and will talk about our expectations regarding the dig as well as the discoveries and finds of the archaeologists. 1 September Today was the first official day of the dig, but as early as Sunday night finds were being made in the caves. Our geologist Robin Hood (How cool is that!) took the top layer of stalagmite floor up and found bone. The big find of yesterday was a javelin tip made from antler and estimated at being 12-14,000 years old. Paul, Mark and the dig team have been busy today and in the finds tent outside Keith and Bethan found a beautiful hyena tooth, so that's at least 25,000 years old. The signs are looking good, and everybody is really up for it. Lets find that Neanderthal!!! Cheers for now Ashley.
