The Origins Dig Diary

10th September 2009

10th September

Hello all, it's Abi again. Well its now officially finished and everyone is winding down and feeling joyous in the knowledge that Kents Cavern has once again helped contribute to archaeological knowledge of the Upper, Middle and Lower Palaeolithic.
I have had a fantastic time helping out the team with their excavations and it will be sad to see everyone leave...again. Though hopefully, the team may be back next year for another round of excavations, though we shall have to see.
Trench Three has proved a fantastic area in the Wolves Cave, with its spear/javelin head (made out of deer antler) on the very first day along with the horse, hyena, and Woolly Rhino teeth and a large fragment of Woolly Rhino humerus which came out in the following days.
Everyone has worked extremely hard, especially yesterday as we gave ourselves a deadline, 5pm, to finish all of the dry meshes and with good teamwork, Jonathon, Beth, Jenny and myself made our target.
It's been a very professional excavation, and I'm glad I was apart of it.

Thank you for reading. Abi x
