GEOPARK BLOGBerry Pomeroy children enjoy the seashore6th October 2009Children from Berry Pomeroy Primary School braved the wind and rain on Tuesday 6th October on their visit the Seashore Centre in Goodrington. Despite the occasional shower, the children enjoyed spending the day learning about the local coastline and the people and wildlife that share it. Years 3 and 4 discovered what lives in our sandy shores by digging for worms and other beasties and then taking part in a shell hunt. Years 5 and 6 turned into coastal developers and were challenged to re-design Goodrington Beach from the perspective of an environmentalist, a local resident and a holiday maker. This led to an interesting debate bewteen the different groups and allowed the children to openly share their ideas and opinions. The rain stopped after lunch and the children armed themselves with buckets and nets ready for rockpooling. There were shrieks of excitement as fish were spotted darting into crevices and crabs were scooped up from underneath rocks. The children also collected small prawns to feed to the baby cuttlefish back at the Seashore Centre. The visit was enjoyed by all and we hope to welcome the children back again in the future. |
