Jurassic and Cretaceous
206 – 65 Million years ago

In the Jurassic and part of the Cretaceous Torbay continued to drift further north and formed part of a verdant island, rich in vegetation, known as Cornubia.  During the late Cretaceous the whole area was buried under the sea possibly as much as 250 meters above the Torbay of today.

Evidence of the vegetation of Cornubia can be found at Lyme Regis in the form of fossil wood that was washed off the island.
