Geopark Festival 2025 - Hands of a Hunter

Kents Cavern

As part of the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark, Geopark Partners Kents Cavern welcome the Survival School on 30th May for a special day of live demonstrations showcasing the ancient skills our ancestors once relied on to hunt and thrive.

Live Demonstrations Will Include:

• Stripping bark from hazel rods to craft traditional arrows

• Shaping and finishing flint arrowheads

• Carving notches for arrowheads and bow strings

• Creating fires using friction and percussion methods

• Making adhesives from resin, charcoal and beeswax

• Straightening arrows using soapstone straighteners

• Fitting arrowheads and securing them with natural glue

• Preparing feathers for flights and fletchings

• Tying and fixing flights to complete the arrow

• Working on yew bow staves to replicate Mesolithic–Neolithic bows

How Do I Book?

Great news! These demonstrations are included with your cave tour ticket so there's no need to book anything additional. Survival School will be on-site all day and will be on our front lawn (weather permitting) showcasing these ancient skills.
