News from the Geopark'My Geopark' Photography Competition 201031 Mar 2010If you love the Bay and love photography...the Geopark team would love to see your shots! Following the success of involving local people in the newly released Geopark film, the English Riviera Geopark Organisation is looking for keen photographers in the Bay. The English Riviera Geopark offers everyone the opportunity to explore, and be inspired by, 400 million years of Earth's history. This photography competition will give local people a means to show each other what they love about this area and also what the English Riviera Geopark means to them. Geopark Coordinator Mel Border said "You only have to scan the on-line social photo sharing sites to realise that we have some very talented local photographers taking stunning pictures around the Bay. The great thing about our UNESCO Geopark status is that it brings together and celebrates all angles of our Bay, from our amazing geology, stunning landscape and wildlife to our more recent history and heritage, right through to how we live, work and play in the Geopark today. We are looking for photographers that have captured elements of this in their images and would like to share their digital photos with us and effectively, with the rest of the world." This competition is open to everyone, whether you're a professional photographer or have just picked up your first camera. You don't need a fancy or expensive piece of kit to take part, concentrate on amazing imagery rather than the technology. The competition will have both an Adult and a Junior category (13 years and younger) as well as three distinct themes to inspire you: Natural Environment, Heritage and Work, Rest & Play. Photographers are being asked to provide a caption of up to 20 words for each of their entries and may enter up to three pictures per theme. There are lots of exciting prizes waiting to be awarded including: A meal at the ‘Quayside Hotel', Breakfast at ‘Tides', Hardback Geopark Network book, Camera bags and many more! An application pack is available online and can be downloaded by visiting the English Riviera Geopark Website http://www.englishrivierageopark.org.uk/ and clicking on the ‘Events' heading. The closing date for entries is Sunday 9th of May 2010. There will be a prize for the winning image(s) and the top 20 photographs will be displayed in an exhibition at Torquay Museum between the 27th May and 3rd June during the annual Geopark Festival. Many of the images will also be available to view online through both the ‘My Geopark' gallery feature on the English Riviera Geopark website and the Creative Torbay website www.creativetorbay.co.uk. The submission of any photograph automatically gives the Geopark permission to use the image in future publications. It is the photographer's responsibility for gaining the permission of any person appearing in the shot prior to sending the image. All images sent in will automatically be entered into the competition but only selected images will appear in the ‘My Geopark' online Gallery and used in publications. |
